She began singing in an Knoxville Tenn station by the age of eleven. Gold Band Records is a small label that is independent. While she was in school, she had established a name for herself within the local arena. However, her goal was to be able to perform at a much larger size. When she graduated from high school in 1964, she moved immediately to Nashville. Dumb Blonde was her first album to be charted on Monument Records. Around this time, Porter Wagoner was looking for the next girl to perform on his syndicated television show. Parton joined RCA Records and then joined the Grand Ole Opry. She accepted her job in 1967. Then, in 1974, she left The Wagoner's Show due to the popularity of her singles like Joshua Coats of Many Colors or Jolene was surpassing their joint albums. Parton wrote I Will Always love You to Wagoner in the aftermath of their breakup. It made it to No. The first time it reached the top spot was in 1974.
